Discord on a calculator

Discord chat on a TI-Nspire through an ESP8266. Running on hopes and prayers.

old-nspire-discord / README.md

The idea Discord on a calculator.

An ESP8266 goes online and talks to the TI-Nspire over USB serial. The calculator shows a friends list and the chat, and sends messages back.

My first project with serial, an ESP, C and Lua all at once. The code is rough on both sides, and the README says so.

Connecting

  • Update the friends list in discord.tns and the token in the ESP project
  • Start the program on the calculator
  • Plug in the ESP and wait for Wi-Fi (the light stops blinking)
  • Press Enter to start listening to serial data

Friends list One channel per friend.

friends = {
    "FriendName1:channelId_1",
    "FriendName2:channelId_2",
    "FriendName3:channelId_3",
}

The dock connector Built, never used.

Besides the USB-B cable I made a custom dock connector adapter from a lab cradle’s connector and a 3D-printed case. It needs system version 3.1 or older, or Ndless, and my calculator is on v6.

Screenshots. Straight from the repo.
